2002 - 2003
April 2003
Coffee Klatsch Being the proud owner of a new motor-home, as you might guess, I didn't get around to visit with many of the guys at the coffee klatsch unless they were RV'ers. Bill Wallace, Dave Keller, Ed Dunacheck and a few others were giving me some good advice and pit-falls to avoid when traveling. Tom Conner said this would probably be his last meeting for the season as he will be headed back to Yellowstone for his summer fun. Charlie Stumph says he is loving the desert living in Bullhead, AZ. It was good to see Jimmy Baker. I believe this was his first visit. Either I=m getting old or losing track. Another new attendee was Tom Fox. Not only a new attendee but a brand new retiree! Phil Cox was down from Oregon and tries to drop in each time he is in the area. Stan Lane made it down from the high desert. And lest I forget, many thanks to Larry Schram, who was there with a new computer data base program he wrote for keeping track of all our retirees. He took the time to set it up in my computer and give me a few lessons on how to operate it. Looks great and once I master it things should be a lot easier. Unfortunately I will have to re-enter all five hundred-some-odd names by hand (typing) and have to try to get it done before leaving on our extended trip June first. I took a few photos of the guys in attendance, Bill Wallace slipped out before I got the camera unleashed. I believe he is camera shy. See how many faces you can remember.

February 2003
Coffee Klatsch Although it was raining our turnout was phenomenal. In fact the rain may have brought in a few in that wouldn’t have shown up otherwise. There were four brand new faces. One local and three out-of-towners. Even though one of the out-of-towners isn’t all that far away, it’s just that the golf course was closed due to rain. But it was great to see Jake Riviere no matter what it took to get him off the golf course. The other out-of-towner, Tim Dick, although not all that far away, has become a mountain person (Big Bear) and to avoid the flat land as much as possible. It was also good to see John C. White, from Utica, New York, after being gone many years. As a lot of you know John is also a very dedicated golfer, working as a pro at one of the golf courses in his area. John said he would like to break into the Seniors Masters but the competition is tough. John being young and more technologically advanced brought his digital camera and took several photos of the Coffee Klatsch gang. John downloaded the photos into his handy-dandy computer and e-mailed them to me to be shared. Being more technologically challenged I used a plain old print film camera to take a few photos also.
Click Here For Pictures From The February CK Our other new face, one of the more recent retirees, was Greg Linck. Greg says he has been catching up on the "honey-do’s" but hopes to get back to playing more golf. We had a few snowbirds that show up about once or twice a year and it is always good to catch up on what’s been going on in their lives. Kathy Wagener was down from Washington State. Don Van Gundy was down from Colorado. Of course those folks living in Colorado try to convince us that it never really gets cold where they live. That the cold is always in other parts of the state. They do have a hard time explaining away all that white stuff on the ground. We were missing several of our regulars and always hope it’s because they're away on cruises, road trips, visiting family and friends or any of the other enjoyable things retirees can do. Charley Kimbell brought several of the badge plaques, which were snapped up quickly. The only negative comment made about the plaque was it would have been nice to have the active dates of service underneath the badges. But a minor detail as far as I was concerned. It is always great to see the women who were the backbone of the department and made the job a lot easier. It also adds a touch of class and moderation to our gatherings. Those in attendance were: Dave Keller, Tom Conner, Kay Flynn, Kathy Wagener, Bob White, Knobby Walsh, Sandy Milton, Barbara Jansen, Al Massucci, Ray Karr, Chris Karr, George Johnson, Chuck Kimbell, Mike Brown, Marilyn Johnson, Greg Linck, Don Van Gundy, John C. White, Howard Mol, Sue Alvis, Terry Williams, Royal Lord, Rita Nicolosi, Don Mendenhall, Tim Dick, Bill Denton, Jake Riviere, John Mauger and Don Williams.
September 2002 Coffee Klatsch
Another great turnout with both new "old" faces, a few, infrequent, out of town and out of state visitors. One of our newest retirees, Dave Snodgrass brought his digital camera taking a couple of overall shots, getting an excellent shot of Charlie Kimbell with his new, slim-svelte look. And there are a few others in the photos you will be able to identify. Ed Carson was also there with his digital camera taking various group shots. Unfortunately Ed had to leave early and missed two of our oldest (meaning been gone the longest) retirees and some of the other latecomers. I've decided, initially, not to identify everyone in the photos, making a mini-mystery guest scenario with the photos. (One caveat those attending the CK are not eligible to participate.) Of course there will be several easy clues in the remainder of this article.Click on thumbnails to see larger versions It was good to see Jack Lowery again. I believe Jack met with us once before. Jack left the department in 1967, moving to Oregon and finishing out his career with Klamath County Sheriff's Department, retiring as a first sergeant. Jack said he is staying busy working for a Armored Transport Security Agency. Some guys just refuse to retire.

Knobby Walsh said he and wife Nancy just got back from a tour of Europe. Knobby said he lost eleven pounds from all the walking they did in Cambridge, England, where Nancy's niece was a recent graduate. Knobby said the whole city/town of Cambridge is comprised of 28 or 29 separate colleges.
It was good seeing Stan Lane, another of our long time retirees. Stan has a PI business in San Bernardino. He is also an expert polygraph operator. With all that going Stan said it's hard to get away but finally said "screw it, I'm going to the coffee klatsch!" Hopefully he will be able to make it back more often. Other first time attendees were Annette Genovese, Rita Nicolosi, David Snodgrass, Sue Coder and Bob Isbell. As always it is great to see Rick Drake when he is in town.
Sue said Darryl has his good days and his bad day. Unfortunately he didn't feel like making today's coffee klatsch. And I know there are a lot of us who can understand that feeling. Ah, those golden years.
It was great to see Bob Isbell. He retired in 1973 and for those of us there who knew him I believe that was the last time any of us had seen him. Bob said he lived in Parker, Arizona for a few years, then lived in the Big Bear area for a few years and recently moved back into Orange County. Hopefully he will become one of our "regulars" at the Coffee Klatsch gatherings.
Speaking of regulars, several of our regulars were missing, some gone fishing and others traveling? And that's what retirement is all about.
Those in attendance this month were: Bud Kretsinger, Dave Keller, Jack Lowery, Charles Kimbell, Kay Flynn, Stan Lane, Ray Karr, Annette Genovese, Sandy Milton, Barbara Jansen, Rita Nicolosi, David Milewski, Terry Williams, David Snodgrass, Knobby Walsh, Edward Carson, Bob White, Judy Wheeler, George King, Sue Alvis, Sue Coder, Larry Ragle, Jim Dorsey, Rick Drake, Ed Stavenhagen, Royal Lord, Bob Isbell and Ed Dunacheck.
Remember; see how many of these names you can match up with the photographs.
The next Coffee Klatsch is Oct. 9th,
Main Place Mall, Paradise Café, Santa Ana, 0900 to 1100 +. Hope to see you there.
