Coffee Klatsch -
12-13-06
The turn out this month was a little on the light side, with only sixteen
attendees. There were no newbie's and only one out-of-towner. Joe Mitchell
came down from the mountain not only to see family and friends but
primarily to attend AOCDS membership meeting, as a guest, that evening at
Angle Stadium. Joe like the rest of our retirees is very concerned about
what the county is attempting to do with retiree's medical insurance.
Of course, as you can imagine, the primary topic of discussion was King
John Moorlach and Crown Prince In Waiting (CPIW) Norby. As soon as guys
arrived the first question was "did you see what Moorlach said in the
Register this morning"? The quote by King Moorlach that was under
discussion was "I could hold the biggest grudge of any person in the
county. I could be morally indignant!" Of course this particular quote was
regarding the County's bankruptcy situation back in the 90's but it is a
definite indication of his mindset and attitude towards AOCDS.
We all agreed and believe that King Moorlach has been and was influencing
decisions made by the County Supervisors long before his election to the
board. And of course as soon as his election was assured he began to pull
the strings on the board, especially CPIW Norby, derailing AOCDS contract
negotiations. It truly appears King Moorlach plans on breaking AOCDS to
his will, and feels he can manipulate the rest of the Board of Supervisors
to go along with him. Our greatest hope lies in the seating of the newest
Supervisor Bates and election of Lou Correa's replacement in February.
Hopefully they will have the intestinal fortitude to stand up to King
Moorlach and not join his "court" of lackeys.
It was great to see Larry Schram after his recent five way bypass heart
surgery. He was still looking a little peeked and said he wasn't to
running a foot race with anyone. Larry said he is happy to be able to
drive himself around again but is still under certain restrictions on
physical activity. Larry said he is not only doing well with his
rehabilitation but actually enjoying the exercises.
Tom Imboden said Jaena is excited about their son Cody coming home for
Christmas leave from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Those who know Jaena
know what an understatement Tom made when he said Jaena is "excited!" I
can just imagine all the things she's doing to prepare for his return.
Unfortunately Cody is being deployed to Iraq in January.
Those in attendance were: Knobby Walsh, Tony Rojo, Bob White, Tom Imboden,
Chuck Kimbell, Joe Mitchell, Bill Denton, Cheri Siefen, Tom Fox, John
Mauger, J.D. Green, Royal Lord, Howard Mol, J.R. Johnson, Larry Schram and
Carl Fisher.

We had a great turnout this month with only
two newbie’s. It was great to see Ira Essoe and his wife Ramona. Ira
looked great; he said all things considered he was doing great.
He
and Ramona said they were happy to be back in the Southern California
area. Like the rest of us or I should say many of us they are enjoying
being grandparents. There’s nothing like it, spoil ‘em and send them home.
Our other newbie traveled the greatest distance, to date, to attend the
Coffee Klatsch. Rich Remmel is now a resident of the great state of New
York (Hillary country) living in a small community half way between
Buffalo and Niagara Falls. Rich said he loves it there, of course like all
our other retirees who move to colder climes he lives in
a
“banana belt” where it doesn’t get all that cold. Wink, wink, nudge,
nudge! And if you believe that he will also get you a very good deal on
the Brooklyn Bridge. In all seriousness it was great to see Rich and be
able to visit with him, albeit for an all to short of period of time.
Bob MacLeod did a great job of explaining A.O.C.D.S.’ position on
negotiations with the county regarding retiree’s medical situation. Bob
assured u
s
the Association will “go to the mat” defending any cuts in medical grants
to retirees. There was a Q & A after his presentation which went a long
way in allaying some of our fears. And we really have to thank him for the
boxes of cookies, fresh from Paradise Café’s bakery. He’s welcome back
anytime!
Shiree Colton, Executive Projects Manager, accompanied Bob, bringing
fliers for
the combination Christmas party and A.O.C.D.S.’ 30 year Anniversary. She
certainly lightened up the room. Shiree said if anyone was interested in
attending the party they could call her at the office and she would mail
the tickets to them, saving them having to brave the Santa Ana traffic. It
would be great if a bunch of the retirees attended the party.
Royal Lord said he and his wife had just returned from a tour in Italy. He
said they went at this time of year thinking the crowds wouldn’t be so bad
and boy were they fooled. Royal said he never saw so many people but the
trip was still well worth it, seeing all the historical sights.
Knobby Walsh said he and Nancy flew to Chicago, rented a car which they
put about four thousand miles on touring several states, visiting many
historical sights. All in all having a great time!
As
promised, with my apologies to Jack Devereaux, I was able to capture a
fairly good likeness of him with my trusty camera. Jack did tell me I made
at least one error in last month CK article, stating that Linda Robinson
had been elected to REAOC board of directors. It seems that was a
premature statement. Linda was nominated to fill a vacant position on the
board and the election would be sometime this month, but there were no
other nominees as far as Jack knew. Jack said Linda could not make our CK
as REAOC’s board meets on Wednesday mornings.
Those in attendance this month were: Terry Williams, Rich Remmel, Tony
Rojo, Bob White, Ed Dunacheck, Bob MacLeod, Steve Fauchier, Don
Mendenhall, Dewey Wiles, Knobby Walsh, Royal Lord, Ira & Ramona Essoe,
Bill Denton, Carl Fisher, Shiree Colton, Ray Karr, J.D. Green, Howard Mol,
John Mauger, Chuck Kimbell and Jack Devereaux.
(Watch for special news concerning the March 2007 CK!)

There were twenty-one
attendees this month with four newbie’s. It was great to see the newbie’s,
Jack Devereaux, Linda Robinson, Kathy Leavy and Debby Kuhns. This months
gathering turned was not only the usual joy of visiting and catching up on
the comings and goings of each other but more importantly very
informative.
Linda
Robinson, recently retired, did a great job explaining what the County is
doing and has done with retiree’s medical benefits. After her presentation
there was about 20 minutes of Q & A in which Linda addressed and answered
the concerns of several of those present. She also encouraged all those
present, if they had not done so, to join REAOC (Retired Employees
Association of Orange County). Linda was recently elected to the REAOC
Board to fill a recent vacancy, to take effect January 2007. (If you’re
wondering why I haven’t covered all the points Linda discussed it’s
because my feeble mind couldn’t remember it all and I didn’t want to
misquote her.) Hopefully in the near future Linda will give me a synopsis
of what she presented and I can get it out to all of you. Again, one of
the major points Linda made was although the information given to us did
not directly apply to AOCDS members, since we are still in negations with
the County, it pointed out what the County is trying to do to all
retirees.
Tony Rojo told me due to some medical complications his back surgery has
been postponed until after the first of the year.
It was great visiting with the newbie’s. Debby Kuhns spent about an hour
and a half on the freeway just to join us at the CK. She said she really
missed seeing some of the folks she spent so many years working with. Of
course she had to proudly show us a photo of her THIRTEEN grand-kids. It
was a group photo with Debby & Les. Bob White said it looked more like a
day care group.
Of course Debby is not the only one to spend lots of time on the freeway
to make the CK. Joe Mitchell spent the most time, coming down from Course
Gold, in the foothills of the Sierras. But Tony, J.R., Ken, Bill and Bob
Talley braved the ’91 Freeway also to make the CK.
I have to apologize to Jack and Linda. Due to operator error their photos
did not turn
out so I will have to catch them the next time around.
Unfortunately I did not get to spend anytime with Kathy to find out what
has been happening in her life since retiring but there is always the next
time.
Those in attendance were: Don Mendenhall, Tony Rojo, Ed Dunacheck, Jack
Devereaux, Linda Robinson, Knobby Walsh, Kathy Leavy, Debby Kuhns, Joe
Mitchell, Dewey Wiles, Bob White, Terry Williams, Bob Mennis, Mike Brown,
Bob Talley, J.R. Johnson, Bill Denton, Ken Self, Don Chaney and Don
Williams.
Coffee Klatsch
September 13, 2006
This months gathering was well attended. There were no Newbie's! Chuck and
Sally Kimbell will soon be leaving for a month of traveling, most of the
time spent in Europe. Chuck started telling me the names of all the
countries and towns they would be visiting. My eyes glazed over, the brain
went into neutral and did not kick back into gear until Chuck said they
would be returning to the states, on the east coast, to visit family,
including a long lost cousin.
Tony Rojo said his back surgery had been put on hold pending the healing
of an open wound on his foot, caused by, of all things, sitting to close
to a campfire and getting a blister on his foot. Now I wouldn't be one to
suggest that maybe Tony was asleep and he didn't wake up until he smelled
his foot roasting in the fire! But we wish him a quick healing so he can
have the back surgery and hopefully find relief from the back pain he's
been suffering for several years.
It was good to see J.R. Johnson and hear that he has been "hospital free"
for the past month. I must say he no longer looked like death warmed over!
J.R. said he was feeling much better.
Several people asked me about the retiree's medical benefits as an article
in the Register that morning had them very concerned. Thanks to Mike
Carrie and Bob MacLeod I was able to tell them that, right now as things
stood, the article did not apply to safety members who retired after 1988
at the rank of sergeant or below. A committee made up of members from
various county employee groups, chaired by Bob MacLeod, are still
negotiating with the county, and as it stands now are still a long way
from any type of settlement.
We did have one infrequent visitor and it was good to see Bob Mennes. He
is finally slowing down some from all the work he's been doing and may
become a more regular attendee.
As usual, we got to reminiscing about some of the fun things and dumb
things that went on in patrol as well as some of the antics pulled by some
the more memorable and colorful deputies. Since this publication can be
read by the young and innocent, most of the stories can not be put in
print. But, needless to say we had some great laughs.
Those in attendance this month were: Chuck Kimbell, Knobby Walsh, Don
Mendenhall, Terry Williams, Tony Rojo, Bob White, Carl Fisher, Dewey
Wiles, J.D. Green, Bob Mennes, Royal Lord, Ed Dunacheck, J.R. Johnson,
Howard Mol, Mike Brown and John Mauger.
Coffee Klatsch July-August 2006

pictures
I have combined the July and August Coffee Klatsch for continuity sake,
which will become apparent later on. July's turnout was rather light but a
good time was had by all.
There
was one new attendee and two infrequent visitors, one from out of state,
the other from Central CA. Ann (Gorczyca) Chavez who retired in '04,
although, as you can see by the well hidden uniform Ann is still working
part time, was our newest first time attendee. Ann said she is still
working part time at Juvenile Court. It was great to have her visit with
us on her way to work.
I wish more of the newer (read younger)
retirees could make it to some of the Coffee Klatsch's. Although I know
most of them are very busy working at their new endeavors, be it golf,
fishing, a new career or what ever.
Sue Alvis was our out-of-state infrequent
visitor. I asked her why Jerry didn't make it. She had he couldn't get
time away from taking care of his horses. I asked Sue if she helped Jerry
by mucking out the horse stalls. Sue said she told Jerry that's where she
drew the line. She would help feed and water the horses but mucking was
not in her job description. We're going to have to get Sue to send us a
photo of Jerry. She says he hasn't cut his hair since he retired. I must
apologize to Sue for not getting her photo at the CK. I had one of those
senior moments and plumb forgot.
Joe Mitchell was down from Central CA to
visit with his kids and grand kids. Although, Joe could almost be counted
as a regular. He was at the August CK also. He said he had to thank his
wife for the August visit. The school where Rosemary works was going to be
closed a week for remodeling. She told Joe, "let's go to OC to visit the
kids and grand kids and that's the week of your CK so you can go to that!"
At
the July CK Ed Dunacheck told us he was going to be leaving Friday on a
motorcycle tour. When asked where he was going Ed said he was going to
ride east until he saw the Atlantic Ocean. At Aug. CK I asked Ed how the
motorcycle tour turned out and how far he went. Ed said he got as far as
Gallup, NM. I asked when did the Atlantic Ocean make it to New Mexico or
did he see a mirage and thought it was the Atlantic? Ed said he was
wearing one of those water back packs with a tube sipper that he could
take a drink whenever needed. He said by the time he reached Needles, CA
he was taking a sip about every three minutes, it was so dam hot. He
stopped in Williams, AZ to visit Bill Miller and Otis Weickum, and then
continued on, hoping the temperature would drop. He said by the time he
got to Gallup the heat hadn't let up and decided enough was enough, turned
north and headed for the high country, finally cooling off when he got to
Colorado. I can't remember all the retirees Ed said he visited in CO other
than Rick Drake. Ed said he stopped in Utah to visit Glenn and Donna
Clary.
Those in attendance at the July CK were: Ann
Chavez, Joe Mitchell, Dewey Wiles, Tony Rojo, Al Massucci, Bud Kretsinger,
J.D. Beisner, Ed Dunacheck, Don Chaney, Howard Mol, Ray Karr, Mike Brown,
Terry Williams and Sue Alvis.
The
August CK turnout was great. There was only one "newbie" Bob Lewis.
Bob said he still enjoys fishing in both the river and the ocean, regaling
us with the size and beauty of the salmon he's caught. Of course he also
had a few photos. You would think he was showing photos of his kids and
grand-kids! I'll admit we were all envious of his catches. Bob White
another serious salmon fisher asked Bob about the new restrictions and
limits on daily catches and Bob had all the answers as you would expect.
It was good to see J.R. Johnson back again.
J.R. said he had just spent another twenty-four days in the hospital
battling continued recurrences of pneumonia. I asked him about the traffic
coming in on the 91 Fwy., he said no big deal he came in on his
motorcycle. Sounds like a guy who likes to live right on the edge!
Here are some other photos taken at the
August CK:

Clock wise: Bob & Don Chaney; Cheri Siefen &
Tom Imboden; J.R. Johnson & Terry Williams; & Cheri & Jaena Imboden.
Those in attendance at the August CK were: J.R. Johnson, Bob White, Bud
Kretsinger, Dewey Wiles, Al Massucci, Bob Lewis, Mike Brown, J.D. Green,
Tom and Jaena Imboden, Bill Denton, Don Williams, Ed Dunacheck, Cheri
Siefen, Larry Schram, Joe Mitchell, Terry Williams, Chuck Kimbell, Don
Chaney, Don Mendenhall, Knobby Walsh, Howard Mol and Royal Lord.

We had only one “first timer” from out of town! It was great seeing Bill
Vining Sr. Bill told
all
the guys he and Lorie have five acres with RV access and hook ups
(electric & water), inviting any of the guys visiting in Gardnerville, NV
to stop by and spend some time with them. Bill said he’s been retired
almost as many years as he was on the department. Let’s hope all of us can
say that one day and look in as good of shape as Bill. He is still busy
teaching firearms classes which is the equivalent of CA’s PC 832 class.
Knobby Walsh is back from his cruise to Japan, China, Korea and Russia. He
said he and Nancy had a great time and was amazed at the modernization of
China. Knobby said he got to witness the Russian navy screw up a maneuver
crashing a couple of ships together. Knobby said he’s anxious to get back
to restoring the old WWII aircraft at Chino airport. Oh yes, he also
mentioned he ran into “Bubbles” (a well know retiree) at Flo’s Restaurant.
Jaena
and Tom Imboden said their son, Cody is now stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC.
Jaena said he will be there about six months then deploy to Iraq. Jaena
said they now have a web-cam and mike so they can see and talk to Cody on
a regular basis. Of course, those who know Jaena can imagine some of the
antics she might pull in front of the camera just to keep Cody
entertained. If Cody’s smart he will pick up a little extra cash selling
tickets to the entertainment. Knowing Jaena it would be well worth the
price!
Of course, as you can imagine there was quite a bit of discussion about
the recent election and some of the post-election happenings. It truly
makes one appreciate retirement. I’ve yet to meet one guy who say’s he
regrets retiring.
Those in attendance this month were: Dewey Wiles, Bud Kretsinger, Bob
White, Terry Williams, Tony Rojo, Don Mendenhall, Al Massucci, Tom & Jaena
Imboden, Royal Lord, Ed Dunacheck, Bill Vining, Bill Denton, Larry Schram,
Knobby Walsh, Ray Karr, Carl Fisher, Howard Mol, Jim Beisner and Don
Williams.
May 10, 2006 Coffee Klatsch
There was a moderate turn out of retirees this month. There were no new
attendees. Two infrequent attendees were there, although a few more
appearances and Joe Mitchell will have to be considered a regular. He was
passing out fliers for his son Patrick and daughter-in-law Shannon's Blue
Orchid Flower Shop & Garden located at Palmyra & Main St., Orange. As a
matter of fact I used their services the day before Mother's Day to get a
beautiful bouquet for our grand-daughter, the mother of our first great
grand child (born Wed. 5-10-06) and her first birthed child. Sunday
(Mother's Day) was also her birthday. (Had to get a little bragging in
there!) Patrick and Shannon did a great job on the floral arrangement,
dominated predominantly by sun flowers, our grand-daughter's favorite.
It was also good to see Harvey Hill. Harvey said he has been taking quite
a few motorcycle tours and plans on doing quite a few more. Harvey, like a
few others that are in the "mystery guest" photo, identified himself as
the young man in uniform demonstrating the "take down" on Mike Brown.
Several of the guys were talking about their pending cruises and European
trips. Knobby and Nancy will soon be leaving for a tour of Japan, China,
Korea and Russia.
Terry Williams said he and his wife will be leaving for London, the
Netherlands and Ireland. Terry's said the will be visiting a small village
in the Netherlands where his wife's ancestors originated and there are
still many relatives there. The village is going to have a ceremony
honoring her ancestors and the contribution they have made to the village.
Howard Mol said he and his wife just completed much the same tour that
Knobby and Nancy will be taking. They had a good time discussing the
things to bee seen on such a great tour.
It seems there may be an impromptu Coffee Klatsch taking place at Molly's
Restaurant in San Juan Capistrano. I'm told a group of retired law
enforcement types meet informally, for breakfast, each Wednesday. Time
permitting I will try to check out the information and even if the
information is wrong I can have a great breakfast. Tony Rojo and I use to
10-87 at Molly's for breakfast, both while working as investigators and
later after Tony went to patrol as a sergeant.
Ed Dunacheck said when the weather gets a little better he too plans on
taking a motorcycle tour of places yet to be determined.
Those present for this months gathering were: Tony Rojo, Bob Benson, Don
Mendenhall, Harvey Hill, Bob White, Ed Dunacheck, Terry Williams, Dewey
Wiles, Joe Mitchell, Bud Kretsinger (cameo appearance), J.D. Beisner, Ken
Self, Knobby Walsh, Carl Fisher and Howard Mol.
April 12, 2006 Coffee Klatsch
Unfortunately I was not able to attend this months CK, but no problem,
Mike Brown did a great job covering for me and sent the following:
Hey - hey Gene,
We had sixteen guys (no gals) show up for this months get 2gether. Tom
CONNER was the first to show up. Tom stated that this is last appearance
until Fall. He and his wife are heading north to visit some grandchildren
and then on to Jellystone.
Tom was followed by; Bud KRETSINGER, Don MENDENHALL, Bill DENTON, Terry
WILLIAMS, Ed DUNACHECK, Ken SELF, Dewey WILES, Al MASSUCCI, J. D. GREEN,
Carl FISHER, J. D. BISNER, Royal LORD and Don WILLIAMS.
It seems like everyone was engrossed in conversation and enjoying each
other and the coffee. I didn't hear of anyone suffering a new health
problem or injury.
But I did learn one thing from Al Massucci, and it was seconded by Jim
Bisner, that the absolutely best pizza in South County is at a take-out
(only) restaurant called the Big O in the area around Jeronimo and El Toro
Rd. And, that the best pizza in Central County is First Class Pizza in
Orange. I am a ten-fifteen year constant customer of First Class Pizza and
have always felt they were the best locally.. The only pizzeria I've found
that is equal to First Class Pizza was a restaurant in Milwaukee called
Flippo's.
Furthermore, if you enjoy calamari, a new restaurant will be opening soon
in Orange (on Glasell just south of the Plaza) called Aldo's. According to
Massucci, the calamari will melt in your mouth.
Why don't we start another column in 10-98; The Old Fart's Restaurant
Guide.

Coffee Klatsch - March 8, 2006
Click here for pictures of the CK
What a superb gathering of
"old timers" this month. We not only had quality but there was an
abundance of quantity. As you might have noted by past CK articles,
attendees are categorized as infrequent or new attendees. All others are
regulars, more or less. Among our infrequent visitors were John C. White,
by way of New York and Sharon Gibson, by way of Hawaii. John holds the
record for coming the greatest distance. John told me he spent a couple of
days with Jim Guess in Oklahoma. He said everything was very brown and dry
there due to lack of rain.
We had one unplanned
surprise visit from Blanche Wilson. I think it was more of a surprise to
her that it was to us. Mike Brown and I were standing at the coffee
counter getting our coffee when I heard Mike say "Blanche?", Blanche
Wilson?", and he was looking at two women walking by in the mall. Poor
Blanche looked somewhat panic stricken being spoken to by this grubby
looking old guy. Mike finally told her who he was and you can just imagine
the surprised look on her face. We got her to go back and say hi to some
of the other old timers and she was flabbergasted that so many of the guys
recognized and remembered her. I got a great photo of her and Mike
together. Blanche was with her daughter-in-law Bambi. We invited Blanche
to come back and visit with us at one of the future CK's. Blanche said she
lives close to Anita Epstein, who she sees quite often. I asked her to
come again and bring Anita with her.
It was sure good to see Bob
Remp looking so good after his numerous health problems. He said he and
the wife had come to baby-sit their grandchildren while their son and wife
took a trip.
Ray Mayer has become
somewhat of a "snow bird" so he falls into a category somewhere between
infrequent and regular visitor. It was good to see his neighbor Bruce
Stanley, a new attendee, who was getting away from the cold weather for a
while also. Bruce said he keeps a wary eye on the mountain behind his
house, taking it day by day as to whether the mountain will slide down
into his back yard.
Chuck Chapman made his first
appearance since retiring. He said since getting his RV he and Jean have
been doing a lot of traveling. They are planning a trip to the east coast
and want to visit family and friends along the way, as well as some our
retirees.
Another infrequent visitor,
Greg Linck, who lives in the area, stays so busy that about the only time
he makes it to a CK is when John White visits each year. But we're always
glad to see him. Maybe, one of these days he will slow down enough to make
it on a more regular basis.
Dick Olsen (transportation
Dick) said he and Vivian were down to do some babysitting with their
grandchildren also. It's great that he makes it to a CK each time they are
down our way for Idaho.
Howard Mol said he wouldn't
be at April's CK as he and the wife will be touring China and Japan.
Sounds like a great trip.
And, for all you "Old Timer Gal's" out there, Jaena Imboden said she has
been very busy putting together the "Old Timer Gal's" get together this
year. They will be getting together Sunday March 19th, 1100 hour at
Morenos Mexican Restaurant 4328 E. Chapman, Orange. Jaena said if she
somehow missed sending an invitation to one of the "Old Timer Gal's" and
you would like to attend you are welcome and the price is $25.00 at the
door.
It seems several of the
photographs taken at past CK's have shown Bob White and JD Green in close
proximity to each other, causing Jim Owens to question if there was more
there than meets the eye. So, JD had me take a special photo just for Jim.
I'm sure you'll be able to spot the one I speaking of.
The attendees making this
one of the best turnouts were: Don Mendenhall, Bob White, Terry Williams,
Bob Remp, Ray Mayer, Knobby Walsh, Greg Linck, John C. White, Chuck
Chapman, Tony Rojo, Al Massucci, Bob Talley, Carl Fisher, Royal Lord,
Dewey Wiles, Sharon Gibson, Bruce Stanley, Ray Karr, Jaena Imboden, Mike
Brown, Blanche Wilson (cameo appearance) Dick Olson, J.D. Green and Howard
Mol.
Coffee Klatsch -
February 8, 2006
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER!
First of all, thanks to Wayne Quint and AOCDS for picking up the
coffee tab for all the retirees at this months CK. Also thanks to Wayne
for bringing us up to date on what’s going on concerning our retirement
benefits and insurance. Unfortunately I did not take notes and to much
times has passed since his presentation for me to highlight what Wayne had
to say. Hopefully it will be covered in the next Courier issue. Wayne or
any AOCDS staff is always invited to join us at the monthly CK’s.
It was good to see a couple of our infrequent visitors, Joe Mitchell and
Bill Miller. As an aside, it’s kind of interesting to note they both live
at about the same elevation, Joe in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada
Range and Bill in the foothills of Williams Mountains, Arizona.
As
you can see by the photo they both look like life is being good to them.
Joe is still involved in some PI work and counseling, on a very selective
basis. Bill is staying busy with his real estate business and becoming a
slum lord!
It was also great to see JR Johnson! After the January CK JR spent about
fourteen or fifteen days in the hospital with a severe form of pneumonia
and there was some question as to whether he was going to make it. He
looked a little peaked but was his usual jovial self.
Ed Dunacheck said he got himself a new motorcycle and tractor and was
really looking forward to doing some work on his land in the desert. He
also said he planned on taking some extended motorcycle trip. Somebody
observed the other day that Ed has truly become a free spirit.
Our numbers were down a little bit this month but what we lacked in
quantity we made up in quality! Those making this a quality get together
were: Bill Miller, Joe Mitchell, Bud Kretsinger, Jaena Imboden, Wayne
Quint Jr., Tom Imboden, Chuck Kimbell, Dewey Wiles, Royal Lord, Mike
Brown, Cheri Siefen, Howard Mol, Tony Rojo, Don Mendenhall, Ed Dunacheck
and J.R. Johnson.
Coffee Klatsch - Wednesday - 1-11-2006
What a way to start the New Year, with the return of Harry Sherlock, one
of the regular attendees when we started the Coffee Klatsch. He said he
has been busy finishing his Masters program at Riverside U. Harry said he
has no immediate plans to put his degree to work. He is seriously involved
with a young woman, and marriage may be sooner than later.
Our annual snow bird, Ray Mayer, said they were glad to be back in the
warmer climes, and the lower elevation has been great for their son,
making it possible to remove him off the oxygen. Ray said he is still
involved with the quarter scale model trains.
Ed Dunacheck spends most of his time in the high desert, when he’s not off
traveling around the country visiting with other retirees. Ed said he
recently bought a touring motorcycle and planned on taking some trips on
it, so don’t be surprised if he pulls up in your driveway just to say hi.
When Ed travels, he usually takes along extra copies of the retirees’
roster to share with those who do not do computing or have ever been to
one of the CKs.
There was only one new face today. J.R. Johnson made the trek in from
Riverside to attend. In order to have something to do to get him out of
the house, J.R. said he is training to be a school bus driver. I think
we’ve all been there at one time or another! J.R. said Spanky Boyd has
moved into his new home in Sequim, WA. He said Roy Fish and Mike Heacock
also live in Sequim. Maybe one of them will let us know what motivated
them to move to Sequim.
Tom Conner said he has not decided yet whether he will return to work in
Yellow Stone Park this year. He said last year while in the park he took
one day to go to the RV Park where JB Parsons was working, but JB was out
and about that day so he missed visiting with him. There’s just no keeping
up with these retirees!
Those in attendance were: Ray Mayer, Harry Sherlock, Tom Conner, Bob
White, Ed Dunacheck, Tony Rojo, Don Mendenhall, Dewey Wiles, Chuck
Kimbell, Mike Brown, J.D. Green, Al Massucci, Bob Talley, J.R. Johnson,
Royal Lord, Howard Mol and Tom Fox.
