RE: Investigator Edward Nichols (Ret.)

We are deeply sorry to inform you that one of our retired members has passed away unexpectedly. Investigator Edward Nichols died peacefully in his sleep on May 11th in Orland, California. The official cause of death has not yet been determined. He was 59 years old.

Ed joined the Orange County Sheriff’s Department in the 1980s and remained with the Department until he retired seven years ago. Ed was married to his wife Theresa for 27 years and it was their careers in law enforcement that brought them together. Theresa worked as a head nurse in the Orange County jail system until she retired twelve years ago. Ed spent much of his career working as an undercover narcotics investigator, which he enjoyed very much. Once he retired, Ed and Theresa relocated to Orland near Chico. Ed took up a new hobby in the rural area: raising sheep and training cattle dogs.

In addition to his wife, Theresa, Ed is survived by his son Joshua and daughter-in-law Andrea, as well as his daughter Shona Susca, son-in-law Michael and their four-year-old daughter, Kinsley.

Funeral services have been scheduled for Friday, May 26th at F.D. Sweet & Son Funeral Home in Orland at 825 A Street. Services begin at 11 a.m.
If anyone has questions or would like to contact the family, you may call Joshua at 949-331-0284 or email him at
