Jimmy Pequeno, Son and Brother of Two of Our Own, Passes Away

Article published on August 30, 2017

We are deeply saddened to inform you that 23-year-old Jimmy Pequeno has passed away. He was the son of Sergeant Robert Pequeno and brother of Deputy Robbie Pequeno.

In the summer of 2011, when Jimmy was 17, he was critically injured in a single-car crash in Trabuco Canyon. The accident left Jimmy severely injured. He spent a month in a coma, endured multiple surgeries and was in the hospital for seven months before being able to come home. Jimmy has remained in a semiconscious state and required round-the-clock care. The Pequenos’ family, friends, colleagues, along with AOCDS, came together to raise over $100,000 to help them.

Sergeant Pequeno has shared his story with every new sheriff’s academy recruit for several years.

Jimmy was admitted to a hospital a few nights ago with pneumonia. Several of his organs were also failing. He ultimately passed away this morning.

In lieu of cards and flowers, Robert is asking that members make a donation to the AOCDS Memorial Fund in Jimmy’s name. He and his wife, Angela, are so thankful for all the help and support they’ve received that they want to pay it forward. They have decided to donate any funds raised to a civilian OCSD employee, whose family member is dealing with a situation similar to Jimmy’s. You may make a check out to AOCDS and mail or hand deliver it to:

Thank you for standing strong alongside Robert and his family during these trying times and supporting them through the last six years.

Please join us in sending our thoughts and prayers to the entire Pequeno family.
