Attorney Jan Christie has represented AOCDS members since 2014. She joined the AOCDS staff in August of 2018. Jan specializes in criminal prosecution and defense as well as immigration law. She has run her own law practice in Orange County for many years. From 2007 to 2012, Jan was a trial attorney with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. While there, she prosecuted white collar crimes, including elder fraud, real estate fraud and embezzlement cases. Early in Jan’s career, she spent 11 years as a trial attorney for the Orange County Public Defender. Jan is also proud of the three years she spent as the Executive Director of New Directions for Women, a nonprofit residential treatment program for women in Orange County. She founded the first residential facility for alcoholic women with children.

Jan holds other honors as well. She received the Honorable Benjamin Aranda III Outstanding Public Service Award from the Los Angeles Bar Association and the Orange County Public Defender Trial Attorney of the Year Award.

Originally from Iowa, Jan received her Bachelor of General Studies degree with an emphasis in American History and Journalism from the University of Iowa. She continued on to the U.I. College of Law receiving her Juris Doctor degree. Her article, “Defamation: The Public Figure Plaintiff and the Media Defendant,” was published in the Iowa Law Review.

Jan holds affiliations with the California Bar Association and Orange County Criminal Defense Bar Association. She is also a board member of Ashland Home, a nonprofit, all volunteer residential treatment center for women in Laguna Hills.
