L.A. Probation Officer Passes Away

By Lynda Halligan, AOCDS Chief Communications Officer

We have some sad news to report this morning. Senior Detention Services Officer (DSO) Stanley Guyness with the Los Angeles County Probation Department passed away suddenly yesterday. He collapsed at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey, where he worked. Fellow officers immediately tried to help him and perform CPR. Guyness was rushed to St. Francis Medical Center, where he passed away. There is no word on the cause of his death. Senior DSO Guyness was 45 years old.

Stanley Guyness is being remembered as a dedicated staff member. The Association of Probation Supervisors shared, “It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we inform you of the passing of our beloved brother, colleague, and friend, Sr. DSO Stanley Guyness. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Guyness family, friends, and coworkers during this difficult time.”

AOCDS President Juan Viramontes has reached out to the association offering our deepest condolences and anything we can do to assist, including financial support from the AOCDS Memorial Fund. Several of our members also participated in a procession honoring Senior DSO Guyness last night, showing their support for him and his department.

We will keep you informed about future funeral services. Until then, please join us in keeping Senior DSO Stanley Guyness, his family, and the Los Angeles County Probation Department in our thoughts and prayers.
