Remembering the Fallen on National Peace Officers Memorial Day

Today, on National Peace Officers Memorial Day, and every day, we honor those brave men and women of law enforcement who put their lives on the line to protect others and tragically lost their lives in the process. We pay tribute to one of our own, Deputy Sheriff Carlos J. Cammon, who passed away in the line of duty on August 23, 2019. He was one of 307 American heroes enrolled in the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial earlier this week in Washington, D.C.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, our peace officers are putting themselves at an unprecedented risk. Many peace officers across our state and country have devastatingly succumbed to the virus. They took an oath to protect and serve, no matter how dangerous the circumstances, and they did so willingly and proudly.

We encourage you to take a few moments today to remember those peace officers we have lost and those who continue to put their lives on the line every single day and night to keep the rest of us safe. Honor them. Appreciate them. Celebrate them. Heroes live forever in our hearts and minds. We must keep them and their loved ones in our thoughts and prayers always… and never forget the sacrifices they made.
