A man suspected of killing another man Thursday night, Sept. 24, led authorities on a chase that ended with a crash and his arrest.
Charles Mathew Swanson, 22, was booked on suspicion of murder Friday morning, Sept. 25, according to authorities and booking records.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department received several 911 calls about a man with a knife chasing another man at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. Deputies found a man with serious injuries at Beach Boulevard and Chapman Avenue.
The victim, 45-year-old Joshua Lee Long, died at a hospital, according to a sheriff’s department statement which didn’t have a city of residence for Long. It wasn’t clear if he was stabbed or injured another way.
Witnesses gave a description of the suspect and the license plate number of the vehicle he was seen in, the statement said.
Using license plate reader information, deputies found the suspect a short distance away. A chase ensued.
Details about the chase and crash weren’t available.
Swanson was being held Monday at the Intake Release Center in Santa Ana.
