Member Loses Two Relatives in Car Crash

One of our members has experienced the tragic loss of both his sister-in-law and niece in a multi-vehicle accident on the Garden Grove (22) Freeway. Deputy Anthony Alvarez and his family are mourning the loss of 33-year-old Jolene Castillo and her nine-year-old daughter, Payton Castillo. Jolene’s young son survived the crash and was not hurt but he and his older brother are now left without a mother and sister. The crash happened in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day. A man has been arrested in the deaths. He was booked on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

This has understandably taken an incredible toll on the family and we want to do whatever we can to help. We are now accepting donations through the AOCDS Memorial Fund to help make this extremely difficult time a bit less burdensome for the Castillo and Alvarez families.

If you would like to contribute, you may make a check out to the AOCDS Memorial Fund and mail or hand deliver it to:

Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs

1600 N. Main Street

Santa Ana, CA 92701

Please write “Anthony Alvarez” in the memo.

You may also donate through our website at Click on the large yellow DONATE TO THE AOCDS MEMORIAL FUND button located on the top of the home page.

IMPORTANT: Please highlight Anthony Alvarez’ name where it reads “Please indicate the recipient of your donation.”

Unless directed otherwise, the Castillo and Alvarez families will be given the names and contribution information of all those making donations.

Please keep the family members in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult and emotional time.

Thank you for your support.
